An important part of the project is the transcription of various WW1 military records that provide information about the regiment and the battalion in particular. These have been transcribed from the original documents held at The National Archives, Kew

The battalion War Diary was transcribed from piece WO 329/2323 supplemented with entries from the 30th Division War Diary, piece WO 95/2313.

The British War Medal & Victory Medal Rolls were transcribed from pieces WO 329/1290-1305.

The 1914 Star Medal Rolls were transcribed from pieces WO 329/2458 and WO 329/2509.

The 1914-1915 Star Medal Rolls were transcribed from pieces WO 329/2734-2736 and WO 329/2950. Additionally, entries for ex South Lancashire Regiment men were transcribed from the Labour Corps piece WO 329/2846.

The Silver War Badge Rolls were transcribed from pieces WO 329/3083-3086 (Preston) and WO 329/3088-3099 (Shrewsbury) where the entries related to South Lancashire Regiment men.

The records are presented as PDF files which are for personal use only. Right-clicking on the documents displays a menu that allows you to zoom, i.e. magnify, the page and to search for particular text, e.g. a surname.
